Ross' Alpine (Erebia rossii Curtis) Wing span: 1 5/8 - 1 7/8 inches (4.1 - 4.7 cm). Identification: Forewing upperside with 1 to 3 subapical black white-centered eyespots surrounded by a red-orange ring. Underside of hindwing with a pale postmedian band. Life history: Not reported. Flight: One brood from middle June to middle July. Caterpillar hosts: Sedges. Habitat: Wet tundra and rock slides. Range: Holarctic. Alaska eastward along the Arctic tundra to northern Manitoba, Southhampton Island and Baffin Island. Populations in northern Quebec and northern British Columbia |
