Bromeliad Scrub-Hairstreak (Strymon serapio [Godman and Salvin])

Wing span: 11/16 - 1 3/16 inches (1.8 - 3.0 cm).

Identification: Underside gray; hindwing with irregular postmedian line of squarish segments. Submarginal area clouded gray and white.

Life history: Not reported.

Flight: July-August and November-December (2 flights) in Mexico.

Caterpillar hosts: Air-plant and relatives.

Adult food: Probably flower nectar.

Habitat: Arid situations in subtropical mountains.

Range: Mexico south through tropics to southern Brazil. Rare stray to west Texas.
