Cut-leaved Water Parsnip (Berula erecta)

Identification: Flowers white, arranged in well-formed umbels. Base of umbel with rosette of large, wide, leaflike bracts. Stem weakly ridged. Leaves divided into 3 to 7 pairs of leaflets. Leaflets coarsely, raggedly toothed, sometimes with projections. Plant 2 to 6 feet in height.

Distribution: A northern and western species entering southeastern Canada, southward to Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan, and New York.

Habitat: Cut-leaved Water Parsnip is found in swamps and other areas of muddy water.

Flowering period: July to September.
