Spotted Touch-me-not (Impatiens capensis)

Identification: Flower hanging, lateral, orange with darker orange spots on the outside as well as in the throat of the flower. Two fused petals forming lower lip, and upper hood, and two small, fleshy petals on the sides. Apex of corolla with a large hook. Seed pods, when ripe, pop open when touched. Stem smooth, watery when broken Leaves ovate, toothed on the margins. Plant 2 to 5 feet in height.

Distribution: Most of eastern North America. Also found in the Plains States states and the Pacific Northwest.

Habitat: Spotted Touch-me-not is found in wet, soggy, shaddy areas.

Flowering period: July to September.
