Marsh St. Johnswort (Triadenum virginicum)

Identification: Flowers pink, with 5 petals. Flowers with stamens divied into 3 groups of 3 interspersed with 3 large orange glands. Flowers ground in small clusters arising from the leaf axils. Stem and leaves blue-green with a purple tint, particularly along the leaf margins. Leaves ovate, almost triangular, opposite, sessile and embracing the stem. Plant 12 to 18 inches in height.

Distribution: Found mostly along the Atlantic Coast from Nova Scotia and southward to Florida and Louisiana. Also found around the Great Lakes and in the prairie states and provinces.

Habitat: Marsh St. Johnswort is found in bogs and swamps.

Flowering period: July to August.
