Asiatic Day Flower (Commelina communis)

Alien: Native of Asia.

Identification: Plant reclining, stems along the ground and rooting at the nodes. Flowers with two large, blue, dorsal banners and a small, white, trilobed lower petal. Stamens tipped with yellow. Leaves, broad, grasslike, and wrapping around the stem.

Distribution: Throughout eastern and central North America.

Habitat: Asiatic Day Flower is a weedy species found in moist, disturbed habitats such as fields, ditches, and roadsides.

Flowering period: June to October.
