Myosotis scorpioides The flowers of True Forget-me-not are larger (1.4 to 1.3 inches in diameter) and the free parts of the sepals of the calyx are relatively short. Smaller Forget-me-not (Myosotis laxa) Identification: Flowers pastel blue with a yellow eye in the center, relatively small (1/5 of an inch in diameter). Free parts of the sepals of the calyx relatively long and pointed. Flowers arranged on two curled flower stalks, the stalks uncoiling as the flowers bloom. Stems hairy, angled. Leaves alternate on the stem, blade-shaped, and sessile to the stem. Plant 0.5 to 1.7 feet in height. Distribution: Newfoundland and Ontario southward to Indiana and Virginia. Southward in the mountains to Georgia. Also occurs in Minnesota and the northwestern United States. Habitat: Smaller Forget-me-not is a denizen of the shores of lakes, ponds, streams, and other wet habitats. Flowering period: May to October. |
