Myosotis laxa The flowers of Smaller Forget-me-not (as the name suggests) are smaller (1/5 inches in diameter). The free part of the sepals of the calyx are longer and more pointed. True Forget-me-not (Myosotis scorpioides) Alien: Native of Europe. Identification: Flowers pastel blue with a yellow eye in the center, relatively large (1/4 to 1/3 inches in diameter). Free part of the sepals of the calyx relatively short. Flowers arranged on two curled flower stalks, the stalks uncoiling as the flowers bloom. Stems hairy, angled. Leaves alternate on the stem, blade-shaped, and sessile to the stem. Plant 0.5 to 2 feet in height. Distribution: Throughout most of North America except for the Plains States. Habitat: True Foret-me-not is a garden escape now naturalized along streams and in other wet places. Flowering period: May to October. |
