Spring Forget-me-not (Myosotis verna)

Identification: Flowers small, white, with 5 petals, and arranged in slightly curled sprays of flowers. Sepals of calyx bristly, unequal in size with one side of calyx longer than the other. Stem hairy. Leaves oblong-ovate, hairy, sessile to the stem, and with a blunt, rounded apex. Plant 5 to 16 inches in height.

Distribution: Minnesota in the west to New England in the east, southward to Georgia and Texas. Also occurs in parts of the west.

Habitat: Spring Forget-me-not is found in dry woods, along dry banks, and in woodland clearings and margins.

Flowering period: April to June.

Similar Species:

Spring Forget-me-not is an inconspicuous, hairy plant. Easily distinguished from the other forget-me-nots by the white, not blue flowers. The hairy stems and hairy, oblong-ovate, sessile leaves should identify this plant.
