Horseradish (Armoracia rusticana)

Alien: Native of Europe.

Identification: Flowers white. Seed pods small, ovate, on a short stalk. Plant tall, 2 to 4 feet in height. Basal leaves oblong, large, finely toothed along the outer margin. Stem leaves large, more elongate, stalked, and toothed along the outer margin. Plant 2 to 4 feet in height.

Distribution: Throughout most of North America except for the southern United States.

Habitat: This species is found in a variety of disturbed areas such as fields and roadsides.

Flowering period: May to July.

Note: The the root of Horseradish provides the condiment of culinary fame.
