Sinapis alba Charlock is related to White Mustard. However the seed pods are much longer and not dumpy in appearance. The leaves, particularly the middle and upper leaves, are nearly entirely without lobes, although the outer margin is strongly toothed. Charlock (Sinapis arvensis) Alien: Native of Europe. Identification: Flowers large, yellow. Seed pods bristly, with a capped, conical apical beak and constrictions in the middle. Leaves only weakly lobed, upper leaves sometimes nearly unlobed. Outer margin of leaf heavily toothed. Plant 1 to 2 feet in height. Distribution: Throughout North America. Habitat: Charlock is a weedy species of disturbed habitats including roadsides, empty lots, and fields. Flowering Period: May to July. |
