Charlock (Sinapis arvensis)

Alien: Native of Europe.

Identification: Flowers large, yellow. Seed pods bristly, with a capped, conical apical beak and constrictions in the middle. Leaves only weakly lobed, upper leaves sometimes nearly unlobed. Outer margin of leaf heavily toothed. Plant 1 to 2 feet in height.

Distribution: Throughout North America.

Habitat: Charlock is a weedy species of disturbed habitats including roadsides, empty lots, and fields.

Flowering Period: May to July.
