Arabis canadensis Smooth Rock Cress is most likely to be confused with Sicklepod because of the elongate, drooping seed pods. However Sicklepod does not have clasping leaves and the color is not gray-green. Smooth Rock Cress (Arabis laevigata) Identification: Flowers white to pink. Seed pods elongate and drooping. Plant gray-green in color. Upper leaves spear-shaped with the base divided into two lobes clasping the stem and the outer margin smooth. The basal leaves form a weak rosette, do not clasp the stem, and the outer margin is toothed. Plant 1 to 3 feet in height. Distribution: Throughout eastern North America. Habitat: This species is found in rocky woods and along ledges and cliffs. Flowering period: April to July. |
