Lyre-leaved Rock Cress (Arabis lyrata)

Identification: Flowers white, relatively conspicuous for the genus. Seed pods flattened, projecting upward, but angled somewhat outward from the stem. Basal leaves forming a rosette and strongly lobed. Stem leaves linear, short, and narrow at the base. Plant 4 inches to 1 foot in height.

Distribution: Southeastern Canada, southward to Mississippi and Georgia.

Habitat: This species is found on a variety of rocky and sandy soils.

Flowering period: April to May.
