Cardamine pratensis Pennsylvania Bittercress is most similar to Cuckoo Flower. The flowers of Cuckoo Flower are much larger (1/2 to 3/4 inches) than those of Pennsylvania Bittercress. The leaflets of the basal leaves of Cuckoo flower are broader and less linear than those of this species. Pennsylvania Bittercress (Cardamine pensylvanica) Identification: Flowers white, tiny (about 1/16 inch). Seed pods elongate, narrow, without a distinct apical beak. Basal and middle leaves elongate, deeply lobed, apical lobe broader than the lateral pairs of lobes. Plant 0.75 to 2 feet in height. Distribution: Throughout most of North America. Habitat: Pennsylvania Bittercress is commonly found on wet ground as well as along roadsides near woods. Flowering Period: April to June. |
