Thyme-leaved Sandwort (Arenaria serpyllifolia)

Alien: Native of Europe.

Identification: Flowers white, small, with 5 petals and 5 sepals. Sepals longer than the petals. Petals not notched or divided. Flowers arranged in panicles. Stem with pubescense. Leaves small (less than 0.25 inches in length), ovate with pointed tips and occurring in opposite pairs. Plant 2 to 8 inches in height.

Distribution: Throughout most of North America.

Habitat: Thyme-leaved Sandwort is found in fields and on sandy soil.

Flowering period: April to August.

Similar Species:

Grove Sandwort (Moerhingia lateriflora)

The unmodified petals will separate this species from species of Stellaria and Cerastium.
