Pearly Everlasting (Anaphalis margaritacea)

Identification: Flowers barrel-shaped with dry white bracts around a yellow to yellow-orange center. Flowers arranged in a flat-topped cluster. Stem covered with white, downy hair. Leaves elongate, linear, usually gray-green above and woolly-white below. Plant 1 to 3 feet in height.

Distribution: Southern Canada and the northeastern United States, southward to Virginia and in the mountains to North Carolina. Also found throughout the western United States.

Habitat: Pearly Everlasting is found on the dry soils of fields and pastures.

Flowering period: July to September.
