Arnoglossum atriplicifolia Great Indian-plantain is similar to Pale Indian Plantain, but the lower leaves are rounder and lack the large lobes and teeth of that species. Great Indian-plantain (Arnoglossum muhlenbergii) Identification: Flowers small, unattractive, cream-white, and supported by stiff, slender bracts. Flowers arranged in a flat-topped cluster. Stem smooth, but without a white bloom. Lower leaves large, rounded, but without large lobes or teeth. Plant 3 to 6 feet in height. Distribution: Most of eastern North America except for New England. Habitat: Great Indian-plantain is found in dry woods. Flowering period: July to September. |
