Biennial Wormwood (Artemisia biennis)

Alien: Native of Europe.

Identification: Flowers small, round, yellow-green. Flowers arranged in small groups clustered close to the stem and distributed among the leaves. Leaves heavily subdivided with lobes elongate and forked. Plant 1 to 3 feet in height.

Distribution: Southern Canada and the northern United States. Found throughout the western United States but absent from the southeastern United States.

Habitat: Biennial Wormwood is a weed found in disturbed habitats such as empty lots, fields, and roadsides.

Flowering period: August to October.

Similar Species:

The small clusters of flowers hugging the stem ands the linear, forked leaves are distinctive features of Biennial Wormwood.
