Dusty Miller (Artemisia stelleriana)

Alien: Native of Europe.

Identification: Plant matted and creeping along the ground. Flowers large for the genus Artemisia, yellow, nodding, and arising in small clusters from the leaf axils. Leaves white-fuzzy, deeply lobed with rounded lobe apices. Plant 8 to 24 inches in height.

Distribution: Found on beaches along the coast from southern Canada to Virginia. Also found on the shores of the Great Lakes. Escaped from cultivation elsewhere.

Habitat: Dusty Miller is found on beaches and sand dunes.

Flowering period: May to August.
