Flat-topped White Aster (Doellingeria umbellata)

Identification: Composite flowers white with yellow (newer) to purple (older) disk flowers and few ray flowers (2-15). Flowers arranged in a flat-topped cluster. Leaves lance-shaped with toothless, but rough margins. Plant 2 to 7 feet in height.

Distribution: Found from Saskatchewan in the west to Newfoundland in the east, southward to Georgia and Alabana.

Habitat: Wet soils in thickets or along the margins of forests.

Flowering period: August to September.
