Doellingeria umbellatum Upland White Aster is similar to Flat-topped White Aster but the composite flowers are larger (up to 1 inch) and the leaves thinner and more rigid. Upland White Aster (Oligoneuron album) Identification: Flowers with white ray florets and yellow disk florets. Flowers arranged in a flat-topped cluster. Leaves grasslike, rigid, and shiny. Plant 2 to 6 feet in height. Distribution: Southern Canada, southward in the east to Georgia and the west to Colorado. Habitat: Rocky soil and on sand. Flowering period: June to September. Comments: This species is often referred to as Aster ptarmicoides. |
