Heath Aster (Symphyotrichum ericoides)

Identification: Flower with white ray florets, rarely tinged with pink. Bracts at base of flower blunt-tipped and spreading. Flowering stems covered with small leaves. Leaves numerous, small, and heathlike. Plant 1 to 3 feet in height.

Distribution: Throughout most of North America except for the southeastern United States and California.

Habitat: Dry, open areas.

Flowering period: July to October.
