Large-flowered Coreopsis (Coreopsis grandiflora)

Identification: Flowers yellow, large, ray florets deeply dentate. Flower stems from base of flower to first leaves (peduncle) long, 3 to 5 inches in length. Leaves divided into 3 to 5 elongate lobes. Plant 1 to 3 feet in height.

Distribution: Primarily midwestern from Kansas to Texas, but found eastward as a stray from cultivation.

Habitat: Large-flowered Coreopsis is found on moist soils in its native habitat in the midwest, but in the east is usually found along roadsides and the edges of fields.

Flowering period: May to July.
