Stiff Coreopsis (Coreopsis palmata) Identification: Flowers yellow, large, ray florets deeply dentate. Flower stems from base of flower to first leaves (peduncle) short, nearly flush with the first set of leaves. Leaves (except upper leaves) thin, with three prongs shaped like a bird's foot. Plant 1 to 3 feet in height. Distribution: Manitoba to Wisconsin and Indiana, southward through the eastern midwest to Oklahoma, Missouri, and Louisiana. Habitat: Stiff Coreopsis is found in prairies and thickets. Flowering period: June to July. |
