Mistflower (Conoclinium coelestinum)

Identification: Flowers fuzzy appearing, blue to blue-violet in color. Flowers in flat-topped clusters. Leaves heart-shaped, flat at the base with a distinct petiole and pointed at the apex. Leaves opposite. Plant 1 to 3 feet in height.

Distribution: Most of the eastern United States and Ontario except New England. Also occurs in the southern Plains States.

Habitat: Mistflower is commonly found along the margins of woods and in thickets.

Flowering period: August to October.
