Eupatorium sessilifolium Boneset is similar to Upland Boneset. The leaves of Upland Boneset are not as wrinkled as those of Boneset, and the bases, although sessile with the stem, do not wrap around the stem. Boneset (Eupatorium perfoliatum) Identification: The flowers are white and arranged in a flat-topped cluster at the apex of the plant. The leaves are wrinkled, elongate, with a sharply pointed apex. The leaves are arranged in opposite pairs and their bases wrap around the stem. The leaves and stem are hairy. Plant 2 to 5 feet in height. Distribution: Manitoba in the west to Nova Scotia in the east, southward to Florida and Texas. Habitat: This species is primarily found in marshes, swamps, and other low, wet areas. Flowering period: July to October. |
