Ageratina altissima Late-flowering Thoroughwort is most similar to White Snakeroot and both species have long, thin leaf petioles. However the leaves of White Snakeroot are heart-shaped, while those of Late-flowering Thoroughwort and much longer and thinner. Late-flowering Thoroughwort (Eupatorium serotinum) Identification: Flowers white and arranged in a flat-topped cluster. Leaves elongate with a long, thin petiole. Leaf margin dentate. Plant 4 to 8 feet in height. Distribution: Minnesota in the west to New England in the east, southward to Florida and Texas. Habitat: Wet woods and clearings, and low thickets. Flowering period: September to October. |
