Eupatorium perfoliatum Uplant Bonset is similar to Boneset, but the leaves, although sessile to the stem, taper toward the base and do not wrap around the stem. Boneset is primarily a species of swamps and marshes. Upland Boneset, in contrast, occurs in drier habitats away from wet soils. Upland Boneset (Eupatorium sessilifolium) Identification: Flowers white, arranged in a flat-topped cluster. Leaves elongate with a tapering apex and toothed outer margin. Bases of the leaves sessile to the stem, but taper toward the base and do not wrap around the stem. Plant 2 to 6 feet in height. Distribution: Minnesota in the west to New England in the east, southward to Georgia and Arkansas. Habitat: Upland Boneset is found in woods and hills, away from wet habitats Flowering period: July to September. |
