Echinacea purpurea Another species of Echinacea, Purple Coneflower has much broader lower leaves with netted venation and with toothed outer margins. The ray florets of Purple Coneflower are broader and darker in color. Pale Purple Coneflower (Echinacea pallida) Identification: Flower sunflowerlike, with pale pink-purple ray florets. Disk of flower large, raised, brown. Ray florets drooping. Stem hairy. Lower leaves elongate, thin, tapering, and with parallel venation. Outer margin of leaf smooth. Plant 2 to 4 feet in height. Distribution: Found primarily in the Plains States, but also found in the eastern part of the United States. Habitat: Pale Purple Coneflower is a prairie species. Flowering period: June to July. |
