Anaphalis margaritacea The flowers of Pearly Everlasting are more attractive with dry, petallike white bracts. The flowers are arranged in flat topped clusters. In contrast the flowers are Sweet Everlasting are pointed, less attractive, and lack white, scalelike bracts.
Pseudognaphalium macounii The flowers of Clammy Everlasting are shorter and not pointed at the apex. The leaves of Clammy Everlasting are wider and the bases clasp the stem. Sweet Everlasting (Pseudognaphalium obtusifolium) Identification: Flowers ovate, pointed at the tip, white, and arranged in terminal clusters. Scaly flower bracts tinged with yellow. Flowers not opening until in seed. Stem woolly. Leaves elongate, almost grasslike. Plant 1 to 2 feet in height. Distribution: Throughout eastern North America and the Plains States. Habitat: Sweet Everlasting is found on dry soil in fields, clearings, and forest margins. Flowering period: August to November. |
