Euthamia tenuifolia Among the flat-topped goldenrods, Lance-leaved Goldenrod is most likely to be confused with Slender Fragrant Goldenrod. The leaves of Slender Fragrant Goldenrod are narrower and have a single nerve rather than 3 to 5. The leaves of the Slender Fragrant Goldenrod are minutely spotted with resin dots. Lance-leaved Goldenrod (Euthamia graminifolia) Identification: Flowering heads flat-topped. Flowers fragrant with 12 to 24 rays. Leaves slender, willowlike with 3 to 5 parallel nerves and with rough, but untoothed outer margins. Plant 1 to 4 feet in height. Distribution: Across southern Canada, southward in the east through most of the eastern United States, and in the west through most of the northern and western states. Habitat: Lance-leaved Goldenrod favors damp places, particularly along stream banks, roadsides, and forest margins. Flowering period: July to October. |
