Duckgrass (Eriocaulon septangulare)

Identification: Plant aquatic. Flowers white, small, arranged in a rounded, tightly packed flower head. Flower head at the end of an elongate stem. Stem with ridges. Leaves elongate, grasslike, arranged in a basal clump. Plant 4 to 10 inches in height.

Distribution: Southeastern Canada, southward to Texas in the west and Florida in the east.

Habitat: Duckgrass is an inhabitat of still or nearly still water of ponds, lakes, and stream shorelines.

Flowering period: July to October.
