Lance-leaved Sabatia (Sabatia lanceolata)

Identification: Flowers white with 4 to 6 petals (usually 5). Petals elongate, narrow. Flower with a small yellow-green, star-shaped center, yellow-green stamens, and a yellow green style with a bifid apex. Flowers arising is small groups from elongate flower stalks. Stem smooth. Leaves ovate, broad at the base and tapering to the apex. Plant 1 to 3 feet in height.

Distribution: Found along the Atlantic Coast from New Jersey to Florida.

Habitat: Lance-leaved Sabatia is found in Pine Barren swamps and bogs.

Flowering period: May to September.
