Marsh Pink (Sabatia stellaris)

Identification: Flowers pink to slightly lavender, with 5 petals. Center of flower with a large, yellow star margined in red and outlined in white, yellow stamens, and a yellow style bifurcate at its tip. Sepals relatively short. Flowers single on flower stalks. Stem smooth, round. Leaves lanceolate, elongate, tapered at the tip, nearly sessile to the stem. Plant 6 to 20 inches in height.

Distribution: Found along the Atlantic Coast and Gulf Coast from Massachusetts to Florida and west to Louisiana.

Habitat: Marsh Pink is found in coastal marshes.

Flowering period: July to October.
