Carolina Cranesbill (Geranium carolinianum)

Identification: Flowers small (about 0.5 inches in diameter or less), light lavender or pink, with 5 petals. Flowers on short stalks and crowded in compact clusters. Stems hairy. Pointed seedpods forming bristly spikes. Leaves heavily divided into 5 to 9 irregular lobes. Plant 8 to 16 inches in height.

Distribution: Throughout most of North America.

Habitat: Carolina Cranesbill is found in dry woods or sandy soils.

Flowering period: May to July.
