Geranium bicknellii Bicknell's Cranesbill is similar, but petals are notched at their tips. The apical lobe of a leaf is flush with the other lobes and is not on a separate petiole.
Geranium molle The leaves of Dove's-foot Cranesbill are rounded without distinct separate lobes. Herb Robert (Geranium robertianum) Identification: Flowers pink, small (about 0.5 inches in diameter), petals not notched at their tips. Flower with a conspicuous tubular calyx. Flowers usually found in pairs on a long flower stalk. Stem hairy, commonly tinged with red. Leaves heavily cut, fernlike, with 3 to 5 primary lobes. Apical lobe with a long petiole. Plant 8 to 18 inches in height. Distribution: Manitoba to Newfoundland, southward to Virginia and Tennessee in the east and Missouri in the west. Also occurs along the Pacific Coast. Habitat: Herb Robert is usually found in rocky woods and along the shores of lakes and ponds. Flowering period: May to October. |
