Large-leaved Waterleaf (Hydrophyllum macrophyllum)

Identification: Flowers white to pale violet, delicate, with 5 petals and a series of long, projecting stamens. Flowers arranged in a loose cluster arising on a long flower stem near a leaf. Stem and leaves hairy. Leaves heavily subdivided into 7 or more lobes, the lobes coarsely dentate. Lobes sometimes blotched. Plant 1 to 3 feet in height.

Distribution: Illinois in the west to Pennsylvania in the east, southward to Georgia and Arkansas.

Habitat: Large-leaved Waterleaf is found in rich woods.

Flowering period: May to June.
