Fumitory (Fumaria officinalis)

Alien: Native of Europe.

Identification: Flowers pink-purple, tubular with a single basal flower spur. Tips of petals tinged with maroon and flowers arranged in a long spike. Leaves heavily divided with each leaflet consisting of 3 to 5 subdivisions. Leaves gray-green giving the plant a smoky appearance. Plant 6 to 36 inches in height.

Distribution: Throughout most of North America except for the southwestern United States.

Habitat: Fumitory is found in vacant lots and fields.

Flowering period: May to August.

Similar Species:

The pink-purple flowers arranged in long spikes and the gray-green color of the foliage are distinctive.
