Cheeses (Malva neglecta)

Alien: Native of Europe.

Identification: A small, creeping plant. Flowers white to light lavender with darker violet stripes on the petals. Petals with tips notched. Stamens fused into a central, bushy column. Flowers solitary. Stems trailing. Leaves rounded with 5 to 6 shallow lobes and a deeply notched base.

Distribution: Throughout most of North America.

Habitat: Cheeses is a weed of disturbed habitats including roadsides, empty lots, and gardens.

Flowering period: April to October.

The creeping habitus of the plant and the typical (if small and white) Malva flowers should readily identify this species.
