Henbit (Lamium amplexicaule)

Alien: Native of Europe.

Identification: Flowers pink with a long tubular corolla. Lower petal lobe narrow at the base, expanding into a broad, bilobed apex. Upper petal lobe concave, helmet-shaped. Opening between upper and lower petal lobes large, open. Flowers arranged in whorls in the leaf axils. Stem square and weakly hairy. Leaves round, heavily cut and lobed. Upper leaves sessile to the stem, lower leaves with long petioles. Plant 2 to 12 inches in height.

Distribution: Throughout most of North America.

Habitat: Henbit is a weed found in a variety of disturbed habitats including roadsides, fields, and empty lots.

Flowering period: March to November.
