Wild Mint (Mentha arvensis) Identification: Flowers small, white to pale violet. Flower a simple tube with petal lobes nearly unmodified. Flowers occurring in tight clusters in the leaf axils. Stem square, lightly hairy or downy. Leaves ovate, tapering toward both the apex and the base Leaves with a strong, minty aroma. Plant 6 to 24 inches in height. Distribution: Throughout most of North America except for the southeastern United States. Habitat: Wild Mint is found on a variety of damp soil types, particularly along the shores of lakes, ponds, and rivers. Flowering period: July to September. |
