Alsike Clover (Trifolium hybridum L.)

Alien: Native of Europe.

Identification: Flowers pealike, white or white tinted with pink. Flowers arranged in a round cluster. Flowers and leaves on same branching stem. Leaves with three leaflets. Leaflets lacking a pale, triangular chevron. Plant 1 to 2 feet in height.

Distribution: Throughout most of North America.

Habitat: Alsike Clover is a weedy species found in fields, empty lots, and along roadsides.

Flowering period: May to October.

Similar Species: White Clover is a smaller plant. The flowers and leaves of White Clover arise on separate stems and the leaflets have a pale, triangular chevron near the base. Red Clover has more distinctly pink to lavender flowers and the leaves usually have pale chevrons on them.
