Clintonia (Clintonia borealis (Ait.) Raf.)

Identification: Flowers yellow or green yellow in small clusters of 3 to 5 on the apex of a long, leafless flower stalk. Berries dark blue or purple-blue. Two to three leaves, ovate, wide, shiny, clustered in a basal rosette. Plant 6 to 16 inches in height.

Distribution: Southeastern Canada and southward to the northeastern United States, and in the mountains to Georgia.

Habitat: Clintonia is found in cool woods or mountain slopes.

Flowering period: May to July.

Similar Species: The flowers of White Clintonia are white and more numerous.
