Canada Lily (Lilium canadense L.) Identification: Flowers large, nodding, yellow to orange, rarely red. Petals not strong curled backward (reflexed). Interior of the petals spotted with orange-brown. Anthers of the stamens large, clublike. Leaves usually in whorls. Plant 2 to 5 feet in height. Distribution: New England in the north to Georgia and Alabama in the southward, westward to Indiana and Arkansas. Habitat: Canada Lily is found in wet meadows and bogs. Flowering period: June to August. Similar Species: The petals of Turk's Cap Lily and Tiger Lily are all strongly curled backward (reflexed). The flowers of Gray's Lily are smaller, the petals stubbier and less projecting, and the interior is more heavily spotted. |
