Rose Twisted-Stalk (Streptopus lanceolatus)

Identification: Flowers rose-colored hanging from thin flower stalks from the junction between leaves and stem. Flowers with 6 petals reflexed backward. Stem zig-zag. Leaves sessile to the stem, alternate, broad, with pointed apices. Plant 2 to 3 feet in height.

Distribution: Canada and the northern United States, but ranging southward to Georgia in the mountains.

Habitat: Rose Twisted-Stalk is found in cold, damp woods.

Flowering period: April to July.

Similar Species: The flowers of the related Twisted Stalk are green-white, not rose, and have a kink in the flower stalk.
