Red Trillium (Trillium erectum L.)

Identification: Flowers deep red to purple with contrasting yellow anthers on the stamens. Flower erect on a elongate flowering stalk above the circle of three leaves. Leaves ovate with pointed apices. Plant 8 to 16 inches in height.

Distribution: Throughout most of eastern North America.

Habitat: Red Trillium occurs in a variety of forest types.

Flowering period: April to June.

Similar Species: The combination of the red to purple flowers and the slender, long flower stalk is distinctive.
