Painted Trillium (Trillium undulatum Willd.)

Identification: Flower white with a contrasting red to purple-red center. Flower erect and born on a short flowering stalk. Leaves ovate with the leaves pointed apically. Plant 8 to 20 inches in height.

Distribution: Southeastern Canada southward to Georgia and westward to Tennessee and Kentucky.

Habitat: Painted Trillium is found in woods with acid soil or in bogs.

Flowering period: April to June.

Similar Species: The contrast between the white petals and the red to purple-red center of the flower is distinctive.
