Whorled Milkwort (Polygala verticillata L.)

Identification: Flowers small, white (rarely pink), in compact, conical heads at the apex of the plant and branches. Leaves thin and narrow, arranged in whorls of 3 to 6 leaves. Plant 6 to 12 inches.

Distribution: Throughout eastern and central North America.

Habitat: Whorled Milkwort is found in fields, particularly on poor soils.

Flowering period: June to October.

Similar Species: The conical, tapering flower heads is a distinctive feature of Whorled Milkwort.
