Bushy Knotweed (Polygonum ramosissimum  Michx.)

Identification: An erect, highly branched species. Flowers tiny, yellow-green, arising in groups of 2 or 3 from the upper leaf axils. Stem highly branched, with the leaf nodes swollen and with a papery sheath that rapidly becomes shredded and stringy. Leaves small, linear, narrow. Plant from 4 inches to 4 feet in height.

Distribution: Throughout most of North America except for the southeastern United States.

Habitat: Bushy Knotweed is a species of brackish marshes and seashores.

Flowering period: July to October.

Similar Species: There are a number of similar species whose correct identification depends on technical characters.
