Fameflower (Talinum teretifolium Pursh)

Identification: Flowers pink, small, with 5 petals and only 2 sepals, located alone or in small, loose panicles from the top of a flowering stem. Leaves very narrow, fleshy, string-like, located in a cluster at the base of the plant. Plant 4 to 12 inches in height.

Distribution: Pennsylvania and West Virginia ,southward to Florida and Alabama.

Habitat: Flameflower is found in rocky and sandy soil.

Flowering period: June to September.

Similar Species: The small, pink flowers and the basal clump of fleshy, string-like leaves are distinctive characters of Flameflower.
